Garden Centre Guides

Our guides go beyond the listing data. Each one covers a single county or travel area, sets out which centres suit which job — hedging, bedding, specimen plants, a café stop — and flags the practical things a listing cannot: which sites are worth a detour, which are easier midweek, and which are working nurseries rather than retail destinations.

There are 24 guides covering eight counties.

County guides

Start here if you are choosing between centres across a whole county.

London area guides

London splits into distinct clusters rather than one market — the north around Crews Hill and Enfield behaves very differently from the west or the Essex border.

Surrey area guides

Surrey has the densest concentration of independent nurseries in the directory, spread across three loose travel areas.

Essex and Kent area guides

These cover a single travel area rather than a whole county — useful for working out which centres are genuinely within reach of each other. Straight-line distance is misleading around the Thames Estuary, so these are grouped by realistic driving time.

How the guides are written

Every centre mentioned has a verified listing behind it. Facts about opening hours, facilities and location come from the business or its own website; anything drawn from public review data is attributed as such. We do not claim to have visited every site, and we do not rank centres against each other on quality — the guides describe what each place is suited to, and leave the choice to you.
