Garden Centres in Powys

Powys is the largest county in Wales by area and the most sparsely populated — which shapes its garden centres. Rather than clustering around one city, they are spread along the valleys and market towns: Welshpool and Montgomery in the north, Newtown in the middle, and Brecon, Knighton and Llandrindod Wells to the south. This page lists every Powys garden centre and plant nursery in our directory, grouped by town.

14 listings across 6 towns. That is a smaller number than you would find in an English county of comparable size, and it reflects the geography rather than gaps in our coverage — Powys simply has fewer, more widely spaced centres. Details were read from each centre’s Google Business Profile on 27 September 2026.

Sunday opening in Wales.
Wales follows the same rule as England: shops larger than 280 square metres may trade for only six consecutive hours on a Sunday, between 10am and 6pm. That is why several Powys centres show Sunday hours such as 10am–4pm or 11am–5pm while opening far longer the rest of the week. See our Sunday opening guide.

A note on mail-order nurseries

Powys has a strong mail-order tradition. Claire Austin Hardy Plants near Newtown is a specialist perennial and peony nursery that trades online and is not open to the public, and several others sell primarily by post. Those listings are included because they serve gardeners in and beyond the county, but each one states plainly whether you can visit.
