🌿 What’s Here
The garden holds two National Collections, including camellias — a genuine horticultural draw rather than a marketing line.
Roughly ten acres of planted garden with island beds and themed areas, and ten acres of woodland across the entrance drive.
A large acer collection with strong autumn colour, plus spring azaleas, rhododendrons and bluebells through the woodland.
A nursery selling plants that are growing in the gardens themselves — reviewers rate the range and the prices, and note the stock is genuinely garden-grown rather than bought in.
Toasted sandwiches, baguettes, soups, scones and homemade cakes, with indoor and outdoor seating overlooking the garden.
A playground with trampoline and tree house, plus fairy houses through the garden — reviewers with children rate it highly.
The gardens host weddings and celebrations, with a patio and marquee space.
Wheelchair accessible with a large number of benches, specifically noted as helpful for visitors with limited mobility.
⭐ What Visitors Commonly Mention
Themes from recent public Google reviews sampled September 2026 — editorial summaries, not verbatim quotes. Bars show relative prominence within the sample, not counts of all 190 reviews.
Sentiment summary: Reviewers overwhelmingly describe this as a hidden gem, and the words that recur are peaceful, tranquil and serene. The planting draws real horticultural respect — several compare it favourably with far better-known gardens nearby — and the nursery is valued precisely because you can see the plants growing before you buy. The recurring reservation is value against the admission charge: those who spend a few hours think it fair, those who expected a shorter visit less so. Service reports vary noticeably between visits.

☑️ Before You Go
- ⚠️ Admission is charged — £12 adults at the time of writing. This is a garden to visit, not a free-entry garden centre. Budget a few hours to make it worthwhile.
- ⚠️ RHS members get in free on selected days: Tuesday to Friday in the winter months, Wednesdays only from April to October. Worth planning around.
- The entrance is poorly signposted from the road and the car park is not obvious. Slow down as you approach.
- Log edging is used to mark the parking and track edges and is hard to see from a car. Take care manoeuvring.
- Closed Mondays. A printed garden map is available for a small charge.
- The nursery sells plants grown in the gardens, so what you see outside is largely what you can buy.
