Quick Decision Table

Cobham

Cobham has two listings that offer very different experiences.

Squire’s Garden Centre is a full-service chain garden centre with a broad range of plants, garden supplies, a café, and seasonal ranges. It is the stronger starting point for a day-out visit or a broad gardening supply trip in the Cobham area. Check current opening hours before travelling.

Cedar Nursery is an independent plant nursery. It is better suited to plant buyers who want a specialist nursery experience rather than a full-scale garden centre. Worth comparing if you are looking for a wider range of plants beyond the standard chain ranges.

Chobham and Ockham

These two villages sit on the edge of the north Surrey heathlands and each have a specialist plant-focused listing.

Tenaker Plants & Gifts in Chobham is a smaller specialist plant and gifts shop. It is not the same type of visit as a large full garden centre — it is better suited to local plant purchases and gifts in the Chobham area. Useful for residents in Chobham, Woking, and the surrounding area.

Spring Reach Nursery in Ockham is a specialist plant nursery with a focus on perennials, shrubs, and ornamental plants. It is more nursery-style than a café-and-gifts day-out destination, and is better suited to plant enthusiasts who want to browse specialist stock. Worth comparing if you are travelling the A3 corridor between Cobham and Guildford.

Bagshot, Windlesham and Sunningdale

This part of the Surrey/Berkshire border has three distinct options.

Longacres Garden Centre in Bagshot is a well-established independent garden centre with a wide plant range, gifts, seasonal displays, and a café. It is the main full garden centre option for the Bagshot, Camberley, and Windlesham area and a stronger starting point for a day-out visit.

Lavershot Barns in Windlesham is a lifestyle destination with plants, gifts, homewares, and events. It is not the same type of visit as a conventional garden centre and is worth comparing if you are looking for an event or lifestyle shopping experience alongside plants.

Hillier Garden Centre in Sunningdale is a full chain garden centre with a broad range of plants, seasonal ranges, and a café. It is a useful option for those in the Sunningdale, Ascot, and Virginia Water area, and sits on the Windlesham side of the route even though it is listed under the Sunningdale area.

Esher and Hersham

Esher and Hersham sit on the eastern edge of this cluster, towards the A3 and Walton-on-Thames.

Garsons Garden Centre in Esher is one of the largest independent garden centres in Surrey. It combines a broad plant range with a farm shop, restaurant, and seasonal events, making it better suited to a full family day-out visit than a quick plant-buying trip. It is the strongest day-out option in this cluster.

Hersham has two very different listings. Squire’s Garden Centre is a full chain garden centre with the standard Squire’s range of plants, garden supplies, and a café. Woodlark Nurseries Ltd is a local independent nursery and is better suited to plant buyers looking for a smaller, independent alternative in the Hersham and Walton-on-Thames area.

Practical Route-Planning Advice

This cluster spans a large area. Cobham and Esher/Hersham are close together along the A3 corridor and can be combined in a single trip if you want to compare the chain option (Squire’s Cobham or Hersham) with the independent options (Cedar Nursery, Garsons, or Woodlark Nurseries).

Bagshot, Windlesham, and Sunningdale are best treated as a separate sub-cluster accessible from the A30 or M3. Longacres Bagshot is the most practical full garden centre base in this sub-area; Hillier Sunningdale and Lavershot Barns are nearby additions worth considering depending on what you are looking for.

Chobham (Tenaker) and Ockham (Spring Reach Nursery) are suitable for specialist plant buyers who are travelling through the area rather than making them the primary destination. Spring Reach Nursery in particular is better suited to gardeners with a specific plant interest.

Always check current opening hours directly before travelling, as hours vary by site and season.
